Urban Renewal Board

Urban Renewal area

The Sandy City Council also serves as the Board of the Sandy Urban Renewal Agency. Urban Renewal is an economic development tool used by local governments throughout Oregon to revitalize specific areas through public investment that encourages private development.

The City of Sandy created the Sandy Urban Renewal Agency (SURA) in 1998 to eliminate blight in our renewal district. To do this, an Urban Renewal Plan was developed to:

  • Improve the vitality of Sandy’s downtown core.
  • Make productive use of land in the renewal area.
  • Create opportunities for new development within the renewal area.
  • Enhance public safety in the renewal area.
  • Provide new public amenities and open spaces in the renewal area.
  • Make improvements to infrastructure in the renewal area.
  • Implement goals and objectives of Sandy’s Comprehensive Plan.

Sandy’s Urban Renewal District stretches along Highway 26, specifically through the ¾ mile area that encompasses the downtown core. The district covers the blue area depicted in the image above.
