City Council Offers City Manager Position to Tyler Deems
September 15, 2023
The Sandy City Council voted unanimously today to offer the City Manager position to Tyler Deems, pending contract negotiations. Mr. Deems has been serving as Sandy's Interim City Manager.
The four finalists for the city manager position underwent a comprehensive interview process this week, including staff and community receptions, and panel interviews by community leaders, peer public administrators, City department heads, and the City Council.
"The City Council is extremely excited to announce Tyler Deems as our choice to be Sandy's next city manager," said Mayor Stan Pulliam. "We had a very impressive group of candidates, but after a rigorous recruitment process Tyler clearly rose to the top. With nine years of service to our city already under his belt, Tyler understands what makes our community so special, and he has the skills and vision we need to achieve the goals we've set for Sandy's future."
The City will begin negotiating an employment contract with Mr. Deems in the coming days; a timeline for his official start date in this new permanent role will be announced soon.
"I am thrilled to have been selected to serve as Sandy's next city manager. Sandy is a very special community and I feel so fortunate to be given the opportunity to lead this organization. I look forward to continuing to work alongside the dedicated City Council and amazing staff," said Mr. Deems.
Before being appointed Interim City Manager, Mr. Deems served as Deputy City Manager, Finance Director, Human Resources Manager, and Accountant/Human Resources Analyst for the City of Sandy. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Marylhurst University and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Oregon.
