Sidewalk Construction to Begin: Hwy 26 from Ten Eyck to Vista Loop
Construction is finally scheduled to begin next month on more than half a mile of new sidewalk on the westbound (north) side of U.S. 26 between Ten Eyck Road/Wolf Drive and Vista Loop Road!
This collaboration between ODOT and the City of Sandy has been years in the making, and will be a significant improvement for pedestrian access and safety on the east side of town. The City Council reiterated its support for the project most recently during its November 1, 2021 meeting, where they highlighted the urgent need and the anticipated benefits for the community. Given the current lack of sidewalks in the area, pedestrians often resort to walking along the shoulder of the highway.
When the project is completed, Sandy will be able to enjoy a new six-foot-wide sidewalk that will give residents a safe place to walk and roll from the Sandy Vista Apartments into town to access shopping, the post office, the transit center, and other destinations. Construction will also include new retaining walls and storm drainage infrastructure.
The project is being scheduled to minimize traffic disruptions, and will include night work. While noise impacts should be minimal, residents can call (503) 276-7805 to report nighttime noise concerns if necessary.
