The City of Sandy is pleased to partner with the Mt. Hood Athletic Club to offer a variety of aquatic opportunities for Sandy residents who live within the official City limits.  If you have questions about the boundaries and whether or not your reside within them, please contact our office (503-668-5569).

All registrations will take place, in person, at the Sandy Community/Senior Center.  Registrations will open July 1, 2024 and will be for the following activities:

 

1.  Swim Lessons 

Cost: $50.00

Working with Mt. Hood Athletic Club, we will be offering swim lessons for Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 swimmers (see below for information on levels).  Swim lessons will be every Tuesday and Thursday starting on August 6th and ending on August 29th.  There will be 4 different times that lessons will be available

  • 4:00-4:30
  • 4:35-5:05
  • 5:10-5:40
  • 5:45-6:15

For each time slot, we have 4 instructors who can teach up to 4 students at a time.  The 4:00 & 4:35 lessons will be for level 1 & level 2 swimmers.  The 5:10 and 5:45 lessons will be for level 1 & level 3 swimmers.

Level Descriptions

Level 1 Learning Targets:

  • Putting their face in the water
  • Blowing bubbles-chin and nose in water
  • Partial head bobs
  • Floating on back with assistance (head back with ears in water)
  • Kicking feet with straight legs (on front and back)
  • Jump in water to instructor
  • Learn to be comfortable in water

Level 2

Must be able to:

  • Enter and exit water independently
  • Blow bubbles
  • Float on back with assistance

Learning Targets for Level 2:

  • Float on front and back independently
  • Complete head bobs (submerge face and head fully)
  • Fully submerge face during front float
  • Blow air out of nose
  • Streamline kicking (front and back)
  • Glide during float (front and back)
  • Front Crawl stroke
  • Backstroke
  • Jump into shallow water

Level 3 (Instructor will teach most of the lesson from the pool deck to encourage independent swimming)

Must be able to:

  • Front float independently
  • Back float independently
  • Front crawl 5 ft without assistance
  • Backstroke 5 ft without assistance
  • Fully submerge face and head

Learning Targets for Level 3:

  • Front Crawl stroke with rotary breathing the width of the pool
    • complete multiple widths without assistance
  • Jump into water from the side of pool and swim to wall
  • Kneeling dives
  • Dive for toys at the bottom of the pool
  • Backstroke the width of the pool independently
  • Jump in, back float and swim to the wall
  • Tread Water
    • Egg beater & Breaststroke kick

*In order to enter swim lessons of any level, children must be able to sit on the pool deck independently without support.

2.  Family Swim Passes 

Cost: $5.00 per pass

We will offer family swim passes to City of Sandy Households.  There is a limit to 4 passes per household.

    • Monday-Friday: 12:00-8:00pm
    • Saturday-Sunday: 12:00-5:00pm
  • Slide Hours
    • Monday-Friday: 12:00-7:00
    • Saturday-Sunday: 12:00-5:00
  • Expect limited accessibility July 8-15 as Mt. Hood Athletic Club will be renovating.
  • Call beforehand to make sure space is available
    • They will turn away people if at capacity

Senior Water Aerobics

Cost: $40.00

Working with Mt. Hood Athletic Club, we will be offering water aerobic classes (for seniors age 60+).  Classes will be every Monday and Wednesday starting on August 5th and ending on August 28th.  Mt. Hood Athletic club refers to their aerobics class as Aqua Fit; a moderate shallow and deep end workout that promotes joint flexibility, rang of motion and agility while building cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength.

Hours: 12:00-12:50 (Monday and Wednesday starting on the 5th of August)
