Construction Underway on 362nd / Bell Extension
Construction is now officially underway on Sandy's most significant road construction project in recent years: the connection of 362nd Avenue and Bell Street west of Sandy High School!
Mayor Pulliam noted the importance of this milestone at the groundbreaking ceremony on June 29th:
"Three and a half years ago, we came together and said this needs to get done. This is a project that is incredibly important and vital for the future of our community, and we need to just do it. With the newer high school, the traffic problems on Bluff Road, and the possibilities this road connection gives us with the properties that sit adjacent to Hwy 26, I know I speak for all of us about how excited we are for the opportunities this road extension will provide for our community. It’s really been a team effort, and shows what can be possible when a group of people come together, put their minds together, and set priorities."
Connecting 362nd and Bell is a top goal for the City Council and will provide multiple benefits for our community, including:
- Relieving a chronic traffic bottleneck, providing relief to the often-congested Bluff Road / Highway 26 intersection and additional access to Sandy High School and Cedar Ridge Middle School from the west.
- Creating opportunities for economic development and local job creation with new retail / commercial construction.
- Promoting resiliency with improved access for emergency vehicles and more efficient evacuation in case of disasters.
Tree removal and site grading is expected to begin in early July. The project plan calls for graveling of the road base and installation of utilities to be completed by the end of 2022, which will allow road paving to begin in spring 2023.
